Nine Aussie businesses to support this Christmas
Usually I share a some Christmas shopping suggestions with my clients front and centre, however my work for product-based businesses this year has been nearly non-existent.
So instead I thought I might share a few small businesses I love or have discovered this year that I wouldn’t mind having a pressie from under the tree this year.
I should also let you know that absolutely none of these are sponsored. You should be able to click the linked Instagram posts to see more about them all.
I always love to focus on supporting Australian business for Christmas gifts, so I hope one of these lovely businesses might inspire a gift for you!
01. The Black Swan Bookshop
I stopped into this wonderful Tasmanian bookshop by accident in December last year. Not only does Alexander has the most wonderfully curated selection of books, the store itself is just lovely to step into.
The bricks and mortar store is in New Norfolk but he also has an online store for those of us not in Tassie!
02. Le Sac
OK, I actually sent this to my husband recently to let him know I would love one of these gardening belts for Christmas! Let’s see if he remembers (or actually reads my newsletters!)
Perfect for your gardening friend… these belts are so fun and handy to keep those pesky secateurs from getting lost.
03. wovenwood interiors
Tracy knows how to pull together a shelfie, and her taste in cushions is impeccable.
I love her “Found” drops too and she sells those amazing brass salt/pepper mills that look absolutely divine on the kitchen counter.
I am not sure that this woman can put a foot wrong!Tracy has a store in Brisbane, but you can also shop online.
04. Brookfield gardens
Another local Queensland store… oh and oops, another gardening-related business (I love gardening, ok!)
Brookfield Gardens has a lovely selection of plants, pots and a gift shop onsite with fashion and homewares.
Stop at Wild Canary for lunch when you are there!
05. soffle lights
Soffle lights sell these super sweet battery-powered lamps that I think discovered via an Instagram advertisement…
Let’s face it, as much as we hate them, sometimes ads are OK when they are items we are actually interested in…. can’t believe I said that!
They have some fun shade options and I love their gold bases. I would love one for my dining table.
05. Harry & Kit
When I photographed Lil’s home way back in 2020, I had the opportunity to visit her gorgeous store - Harry & Kit in Goondiwindi. She has now opened a second shop in Toowoomba and it is definitely worth a visit if you are ever in either of these towns!
Lil imports unique homewares, stocks the best fashion brands and I particularly love the candles and diffusers that she stocks.
06. Viva Vintage
I am always admiring the gorgeous art and decor around the Viva Vintage store! They have a particularly lovely painting of two dogs that look a lot like my Springer Spaniel Marmalade and my mum’s Gordon Setter Bridie, that I have been eyeing off.
While there is a store in Launceston TAS, I have not yet been able to visit. Lucky for us there is also a comprehensive online store of their stock.
06. Narissa Perks
Based in WA, Narissa Perks is a beautiful online brand with colourful lampshades, cushions and frames. Using high quality textiles and fabrics for the items, I would quite readily have any of her products in my home!
07. the Decor mantra
If you know me well… or at least have been watching my insta stories lately you would know I love flannel flowers. And The Decor Mantra has a block-printed flannel flower tablecloth. I love all the other native Australian flora items in the store as well.
08. peregrine store
This bricks and mortar shop in the Adelaide Hills looks like the most lovely shop to spend some time in. I haven’t been fortunate enough to visit but love following on Instagram and checking Jessie’s online store, she has such a great selection of gifts for everyone.
A lot of her products are for outdoorsy, nature-loving, creative folk. So if that sounds like you or someone you know, please check this one out!
and…. this brand is what i would love to wear on Christmas day
I am eyeing off two dresses from Lovaan. They are a relatively new brand (last year or so they have popped up) and admire how they blend modern and vintage aesthetics into their designs!
I hope you found something that you are keen to check out for Christmas, or maybe save an idea for a birthday next year. And I am so glad you are keen on supporting Australian small business!
