Styling & photography workshop - Scenic Rim, Queensland

thoughts on hosting my first ever workshop

I have always wondered how someone can possibly teach something when it comes to them so instinctually.

This is the way I have always felt about sharing what I know about photography. A lot of it just happens on its own.

My fingers move almost automatically. Locking the camera into place on the tripod, my right forefinger scrolling to the aperture to allow just enough of my subject to be in focus.

My camera settings are always the same. I know how I like them. If someone were to change them without my knowing I might not know how to change them back.

I have never been a gear nerd, knowing what I need, and having just that. My gear tends to last me years and years before I buy the next best thing (OK, except for that time I bought a D850 when I should have jumped ship to mirrorless sooner … IYKYK).

What is now so natural and glaringly obvious to me, are skills and knowledge acquired across a decade of working towards being where I am. And I did a lot of it on my own.

Yet sharing what I know now with people is fulfilling, and I don't like to think of anyone in the position I was those many years ago, feeling alone and unsure.

At the end of July I hosted my first ever workshop, with the graceful Cheryl (Albert & Grace) by my side.

Together we shared styling and photography tips and tricks for small business owners in the lifestyle, interiors and travel space.

Our guests included 10 amazing women running their own businesses, including airbnb hosts, furniture designers, and shop owners.

It was just a simple 3 hour session where we stepped through our own personal outlooks on where to start with styling and photography, we staged a photoshoot and ended with cake and tea, with time for extra questions and photography practice.

If you would like to learn with me you can join my next workshop aimed at small business owners on 7th of September

or

if you are a fellow photographer reach out to organise a one on one mentoring session.
