FAQs

Here are some questions I recieve a lot about the photoshoot day as well as the services agreement. If your question is not sufficiently answered please email me.

Do I need to be on site during the shoot?

No, however your are most welcome to and I invite you to collaborate with me on angles or ideas.

Being on site with me during the shoot also means I can ask any questions I have along the way, and you can review the shots as we go to ensure you are happy with the outcome.

If you choose not to participate and would like to leave me to “work my magic” that is also fine! This just means I will go off whatever information you have provided me in your photography brief and shoot the property or subject “as is”.

Why do I have to ask for permission for images to be published by a magazine or digital publication? (Section 5.2)

This clause exists for several reasons, and does not rule out the possibility altogether, and is more so intended to open discussion first. Here are my main reasons below:

  1. I have the contact details and a relationship established with many national publications, as well as knowledge of what suits certain magazines. So I like to have a discussions around the client’s wishes, the potential of publication and how to maximise the possibility if there

  2. national printed publications are required to pay for image usage to the photographer

  3. so that we can make a strategy together on whether it is best for myself or the client to handle this process, and to ensure the images aren’t distributed without a strategy/prioritisation in place to maximise media placement

Why can’t I share the photos with whoever I want if I have paid for them? (Section 5.4)

You have spent your hard earned money and also a lot of your time organising this shoot with me. Why would we allow another business to use the images for commercial benefit for free?

Also all professional photographers should retain their copyright for the images created and instead provide a license to the client to use the images in certain ways. A photographer can charge fees to other businesses to use the images for commercial purposes, and this is what I do for any business that wants to use any image that I have created. If you would like to have more say in this matter, please contact me to discuss.

It is forecast for rain on our shoot day, can we postpone?

Generally I don’t postpone for light rain or overcast weather, unless we require sunlight to meet certain requirements of the brief supplied by the client. Overcast weather can actually be great for photography.

If there is extreme weather forecast, we will usually talk about this in the days or week before the shoot to agree on a plan together.
